Večernjakova domovnica: connecting Croats from around the world

Representatives of the Humanitarian Association fra Mladen Hrkać once again took part in “Večernjakova domovnica”, the prestigious event held on 8 March 2025 in Bad Homburg, Germany. For 19 years now this event has recognised and rewarded successful Croatian emigrants and their descendants, and once again it highlighted the importance of the bond between the Croatian diaspora and the homeland.

For the fra Mladen Hrkać Association, taking part in the event was an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation with Croatian emigrants and to continue the partnership developed within the ZA-JEDNO.HR thematic network.

ZA-JEDNO.HR — connecting Croats around the world

The ZA-JEDNO.HR thematic network brings together more than 60 civil society organisations, foundations and missions from around the world in which Croats are active. It was established through the project “Za jedno srce, jedna duša, jedna HRVATSKA”, launched by the Humanitarian Association fra Mladen Hrkać together with its partners. The aim of the network is to strengthen ties between Croats at home and abroad, to create opportunities for cooperation, and to promote Croatian identity and interests globally.

The Croatian diaspora — valuable potential for the future

Croatian emigrants, immigrants and returnees represent an invaluable resource for the development of Croatia. Their experience, knowledge and business networks can play a key role in the country's economic and social progress. For that potential to be fully realised, however, it is important to create policies and projects that encourage young people from the diaspora to become more actively involved in promoting Croatia, its economic and political interests, and the preservation of national identity.

The participation of the fra Mladen Hrkać Association in Večernjakova domovnica is another step in that direction — connection, togetherness and stronger bridges between the homeland and the diaspora are key to Croatia's future in a global context.

Activities of the thematic network

The activities of the thematic network are aimed at strengthening the capacity of civil society organisations through coordination meetings, opening access to structured dialogue, cross-sector cooperation, training on the legislative frameworks and strategic documents governing the relationship between the Republic of Croatia and Croatian emigrants, educational workshops on innovative methods and models of networking among civil society organisations, adapting emigration programmes to the current socio-economic environment, and training on the use of modern information and communication platforms for effective communication and cooperation despite the geographical dispersion of the network's stakeholders.

The aim of networking is to strengthen the capacity of civil society organisations to build a thematic network in the field of “Emigration as a driver of development in Croatia” and to establish an effective model of cross-sector cooperation.

By expanding and developing the thematic network, made up of stakeholders gathered around the theme Emigration as a driver of development in the Republic of Croatia, we are establishing an effective model of cross-sector cooperation.
